Kashima Kenjutsu with Max Eriksson 16. September 2023

Basics and Kumi Tachi

The foundation for any progression in the Kumi Tachi (paired) practice is self-evident handling of the sword. To achieve this, the body, sword, and mind need to become one.

In the seminar, we will use various body exercises, Suburi, and Battojutsu (drawing the sword), to increase the permeability of the joints and to establish a natural connection between body and sword.

Building on this, we will then practice various Kumi Tachi, selected from the five series of the Kashima No Tachi Curriculum.

The Seminar is addressed to all practitioners with some martial art background, who like to have intensive research about the use of the Japanese sword.

Beginners with little prior knowledge of Kenjutsu are welcome to participate in the first class. In order to benefit from the second class, a basic experience with the sword, e.g. through Aiki Ken or another Kenjutsu school, should exist.
