The Weapons of Aikido
In Aikido training, unarmed practice takes centre stage. At the same time, posture, timing and distance in Aikido are fundamentally shaped by the handling of sword, staff and knife. These connections are therefore also explicitly tested in Dan examinations.
This weekend focuses on the basic movement principles involved in working with the three classical Aikido weapons: knife (Tantō), staff (Jō) and sword (Bokken). Both basic forms and their relationship to unarmed technique will be practiced.
The seminar is open to students from 4th Kyu onwards. For those working towards a Dan examination, regular weapons training from 2nd Kyu is advisable.
