All basic-level classes are equally suitable for beginners. You can start at any time. Simply choose the session that fits your schedule and register using the form at the bottom of the page. We’ll get back to you within 24 hours to confirm your preferred date.
For your first training, please arrive at the dojo 15 minutes before class begins. This gives us enough time to show you everything. You’ll need comfortable clothing, such as sweatpants and a T-shirt. We train barefoot. For Kenjutsu, we provide the practice sword.
Note: The dojo is on the ground floor in the second courtyard—give yourself a few extra minutes to find the entrance.
In the basic-level classes, we take our time. You learn everything step by step, at your own pace. Each training begins with a warm-up, then we practice in pairs. Partners change with each new technique. As a beginner, you’ll be paired with someone more experienced.
Classes are taught in German, but all instructors speak English fluently and provide clarification as needed.
Do I need previous experience? Aikido and Kenjutsu can be learned by anyone, regardless of physical fitness or prior experience. Everything you need, you’ll learn with us.
Do I need to be particularly fit or flexible? Flexibility comes with training. It’s not about already being perfect, but about developing—at your own pace.
I’m over 50 / have physical limitations. Can I still train? We have members between 18 and 70 years old with very different physical conditions. If you’re unsure, talk to us before your first training—we’ll figure out together how you can best participate.
What should I wear for the trial session? Comfortable athletic clothing (T-shirt and sweatpants are fine). You should remove jewelry.
How much does the trial session cost? The trial session is free and without obligation.
Can I just watch a class first? You’re welcome to watch a training session before participating yourself. Just contact us beforehand. However, we’d definitely recommend doing a trial training instead—it’s the only way to get a real impression.
How large are the training groups? It varies by day of the week, but typically 10–20 people train together. Large enough for diverse training partners, small enough for individual attention.
Do I have to decide immediately after the trial session? You can take your time to think about whether Aikido is right for you. Some people know right away, others need two or three trial sessions. Both are completely fine.
What does membership cost? Monthly membership costs €95 for working professionals (reduced rate €75). Included: unlimited access to all trainings six days per week, cancellable with two months’ notice. All information under [Registration].
Are there discounts? We offer discounts for students, trainees, and unemployed persons.
How does registration work after the trial session? If you want to continue, we’ll discuss with you which rate fits best. Membership begins from the next month.
Do I need to buy an Aikido uniform (Gi)? For the first few weeks, comfortable athletic clothing is fine. Once you’re training regularly, we recommend wearing an Aikido Gi (training uniform). We’re happy to advise you.
How often should I train? Some come once a week, others three or four times. Regular training once a week is a good start for continuous learning. More is possible if it fits into your daily life.
Can I train in multiple classes? As a member, you can participate in all classes that match your level. You decide how often you come each week.
I don’t speak German. Is that a problem? Not at all. All instructors speak English fluently, and many members are international. Classes are taught in German, but explanations are provided in English as needed. You don’t need German language skills to train here.
